In September 2020, JHA Prison Monitor Katie Pieper spoke with special guest Mr. Colemon Jefferson to learn about his experience inside the Illinois prison system, which included 22 years as a paralegal in a prison law library. Mr. Jefferson now works at a halfway house in Chicago assisting returning citizens with re-entry. You can watch this conversation here:

For this first event, JHA Prison Monitor Katie Pieper spoke with special guest Mr. Colemon Jefferson to learn about his experience inside the Illinois prison system, which included 22 years as a paralegal in a prison law library. Mr. Jefferson now works at a halfway house in Chicago assisting returning citizens with re-entry. JHA believes it is critical to give voice to those who are currently and formerly incarcerated, bringing their lived experiences and opinions to those outside prison walls to be part of prison reform. JHA thanks everyone who attended our event as well as those who made a donation to JHA! We would also like to thank Jenner & Block LLP and an anonymous donor for sponsoring the Toast to Justice event series.
